New Delhi: India has been grappling with continuous rainfall across most regions for the past few months, a phenomenon attributed to two active weather systems. These systems are poised to bring more showers to additional areas in the coming days, heightening concerns about potential flooding and disruptions.
The first system is a depression currently located over northwest Madhya Pradesh and adjoining Rajasthan. Over the past few hours, this depression has shown significant westward movement. As of Sunday morning, it was centered approximately 60 km west-southwest of Guna in Madhya Pradesh and 120 km southeast of Kota in east Rajasthan.
Weather forecasts indicate that this depression will continue its west-southwest trajectory, intensifying into a deep depression over south Rajasthan and north Gujarat by August 27. It is then expected to move towards the northeast Arabian Sea, near the coasts of Saurashtra and Kutch, as well as adjacent areas of south Pakistan around August 29. This movement is likely to bring heavy rainfall to these regions, prompting alerts for possible flooding and other weather-related disruptions, similar to those India has already faced in the past month.
Simultaneously, another system, an upper-air cyclonic circulation, is active over south Bangladesh and surrounding areas, extending up to the mid-tropospheric level as of Sunday morning. This circulation is expected to evolve into a low-pressure area within the same region shortly.
As it intensifies and moves west-northwest, it is likely to impact Gangetic West Bengal, north Odisha, and Jharkhand over the next two days. This system is also anticipated to bring widespread rainfall, potentially affecting agriculture, transportation, and daily activities in these areas.
With these developments, authorities are on high alert, preparing for the possibility of more flooding and weather-related challenges in the days ahead.
