THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Acclaimed actor Suresh Gopi, who was a nominated member by the Bharatiya Janata party to the Rajya Sabha, on Friday appeared to have got an elevation, when he was included in the Core Committee of the Kerala unit of the party.

The BJP's Core Committee, which serves as the party's highest decision-making body in the state, violated the rules in order to make room for the actor.

According to party convention, state party presidents, previous presidents, and general secretary make up the Core Committee; Gopi has never held any of these positions.

Gopi had hoped to serve a second term in the Upper House, but when that didn't happen, he was guaranteed that he would be given consideration for a prominent party position.

Gopi ran for office in the Thrissur district in both the 2019 Lok Sabha elections and the 2021 Thrissur Assembly elections. He put up a good fight despite having no prior political experience, which was appreciated by all. Since then, his reputation within the party and with the general public has improved.

In April of this year, when his stint in the Upper House came to an end, he began to focus on his wildly successful acting career, where he currently stands third on the list of celebrities behind Mammootty and Mohanlal.

Due to the party's severe factionalism, the Kerala branch of the party lost the one seat it had won in the 2016 Assembly elections, and the vote share for the party decreased.

In the meanwhile, this promotion for Gopi is being viewed as the starting point towards a larger position in the party.
