Ayodhya: The Ayodhya Development Authority (ADA) on  Friday gave the final approval for the construction of the Ayodhya mosque, said Gaurav Dayal Ayodhya Divisional Commissioner and Chairman of the Authority.

The mosque was mandated by the Supreme Court in the historic Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid title verdict. The approval was communicated to the Indo-Islamic Culture Foundation, a trust set up by the Sunni central Waqf board for the construction of the mosque in Ayodhya.

Dayal announced the clearance on Friday and stated that "after a few departmental formalities which are to be fulfilled within couple of days," the sanctioned maps will be turned over to the Indo Islamic Cultural Foundation.

On five acres of property provided by the State government, the IICF filed maps in May 2021 for the construction of a mosque, a hospital, a research institute, a communal kitchen, and a library. Yet because the ADA was slow to issue no-objection certificates (NOCs), the problem took months to resolve.

Since that the sanctioned land was originally intended for agricultural purposes, there were also delays brought on by changes in land usage. "I was informed more than five months ago that the plot that was given to us cannot be constructed upon since it is agricultural land. Thus, the land use has to be modified by the ADA. We have written to the ADA and the State government about this, but nothing has changed, according to Athar Husain Siddiqui, secretary of the IICF.

In a landmark decision on November 9, 2019, the Supreme Court mandated the construction of a Ram temple at a contentious location in Ayodhya and urged the federal or state governments of Uttar Pradesh to set aside five acres of land for the construction of a mosque in a district landmark. The ruling had said that "this should be done concurrently with the transfer of the property to the proposed trust [for the temple]".
