Melbourne: Former Australian wicketkeeper-batsman Adam Gilchrist has made a big statement before the Start of the T20 World Cup. The former veteran has said that if the Australian team fails to win the T20 World Cup and the Ashes series, they will have to be prepared for the setback. Australia is currently ranked seventh in the ICC T20 rankings.
Gilchrist said many positions are at stake. One can see discontent for Australian cricketers, especially coach Justin Langer. He has a very documented relationship with the team. I don't think people will accept too much of the easy defeat of reaching the ICC T20 World Cup semi-finals, he added.
Gilchrist further said that the Australian team will have to make a mark in the Ashes series in December-January again in the tournament. If they are not able to retain the Ashes at least, there will be trouble for some senior players, as it will mean that they have not done well, Langer's position will also come down.
