Afghan, Pakistan FMs meet on boosting economic integration

ISLAMABAD: The foreign minister of Pakistan Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, spoke with Amir Khan Muttaqi, the acting foreign minister of the interim government of Afghanistan, and emphasised the importance of increased cooperation to advance economic integration and regional connectivity, according to the Pakistani Foreign Ministry.

In a conversation with Afghanistan's acting foreign minister, Amir Khan Muttaqi, in Tashkent during the SCO Foreign Ministers meeting, he stressed the possibility of ending the four-decade struggle and establishing long-term peace and stability in Afghanistan and the surrounding area.

The Foreign Minister emphasised Pakistan's numerous efforts to facilitate international humanitarian aid and boost bilateral relations with Afghanistan.

He also emphasised the necessity of greater collaboration to advance regional connectivity and economic integration.  He underlined Pakistan's support for regional infrastructure and connectivity initiatives like TAPI, CASA 1000, and TAP.

Amir Khan Muttaqi, Afghanistan's acting foreign minister, praised the foreign minister for distributing aid and for providing shelter to Afghan refugees for the past forty years.

During their discussions on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization's (SCO) Council of Foreign Ministers meeting, Zardari underlined Pakistan's commitment to regional connectivity and infrastructure projects, the Ministry noted in a statement on Friday.

Following the devastation caused by the recent earthquake in Afghanistan, he reaffirmed Pakistan's solidarity and support for the Afghan people and added that Pakistan remained steadfastly dedicated to a peaceful, stable, prosperous, and linked Afghanistan, as per reports from Xinhua news.

According to the statement, the Foreign Minister emphasised the various measures Pakistan has done to support bilateral relations with Afghanistan and facilitate outside humanitarian aid.

Muttaqi praised Pakistan for providing humanitarian aid and for sheltering Afghan refugees for the previous forty years.
