Taliban gets a vow of economic aid from Russia, Uzbekistan

The Taliban government heading the Islamic Emirates of Afghanistan, got a boost after Russia decided to cancel duties on Afghan imports and also resume the supply of oil and grain to the country.

As per media reports,  the Russian Special Envoy for Afghanistan, Zamir Kabulov announced this at the 'Afghanistan: Security and Economic Development organised by Uzbekistan to mull over the security and humanitarian state of affairs in its conflict-ridden neighbour. As many as 20 countries including India attended the 2-day conference.

It was also reported that Russia said that as humanitarian aid was not sufficient support Afghanistan, it was ready to develop economic ties and trade with Afghanistan.  The Taliban panel led by acting foreign minister Amir Khan Muttaqi got the aid it was looking for as Uzbekistan gave a call for unfreezing Afghanistan's blocked foreign reserves.

The Uzbek Foreign Minister Vladimir Norov also urged for unblocking of Afghanistan's foreign reserves which would enable the country to maintain its economy.

"Afghanistan should no longer pose a threat to the region's countries and to the international community as a whole," the minister said in an appeal to the Taliban delegation to build an inclusive government, said Pajhwok. 

Participating countries at the summit, including Special Representative for Afghanistan Thomas West and Special Envoy for Afghan Women, Girls, and Human Rights Rina Amiri, are seeking assurances from the Taliban that Afghan territory will not be utilised by terrorist groups against its neighbours. They also want the Taliban government to incorporate minorities and women in order to make it more inclusive.
