Afghans who were evacuated from Kabul after the Taliban takeover were living in a refugee center near Warsaw in Poland. One of these refugees, a refugee family, drank soup made from mushrooms from a wooded area. In which a five-year-old Afghan boy died, and his six-year-old brother is in critical condition, a liver transplant was also performed.

Hospital director Dr. Marek Migdal confirmed the death of the five-year-old on Thursday, saying: "Unfortunately, we were unable to help both boys. The little boy suffered irreversible brain damage. We transplanted his liver." A 17-year-old Afghan girl was also undergoing treatment at the same center after consuming mushrooms. She has since been discharged from the hospital after recovering.

Local authorities have denied media reports that "enough food was not being provided to the refugees." Jacob Dudziak, spokesman for the Foreigners' Office, said, "The evacuated are given three meals a day. He said staff at centers for foreigners had been instructed to warn Afghan citizens not to eat wild mushrooms. Poland evacuated more than 1,000 Afghans working with NATO forces in the country. Most of the evacuations were in Poland. But others who were evacuated by Polish troops on behalf of third countries or international organizations will go elsewhere.
