US Open champion Emma Raducanu has withdrawn from the first Women's Tennis Association (WTA) tournament of the season in Melbourne. The 19-year-old British player recently returned from the quarantine of the Coronavirus in Abu Dhabi. Raducanu was scheduled to participate in the tournament starting January 3 in Melbourne, which is said to be the warm-up tournament of the first Grand Slam Australian Open of the year. However, she is all set to gear up for this month's Australian Open in Melbourne.

She is likely to participate in the Sydney Classic before entering the Grand Slam. On her withdrawal from the warm-up tournament, she said it was going to be a hurry to enter the tournament directly after returning from solitary confinement.

Britain's number one and world number 19 may be included in the list of MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire) celebrities to be honoured by Queen Elizabeth II. She made history by winning the US Open Grand Slam as a qualifier. She has also been voted BBC Player of the Year.
