BARABANKI: Five days after reporting a rape attempt, a 16-year-old minor Dalit girl was discovered hanged in her home in the Barabanki area of Uttar Pradesh.

According to the girl's relatives, the accused's delayed arrest and their derision of her led to the girl's suicide. They claimed that she was devastated by the encounter and had made the decision to take her own life.

The victim's mother found the body on Thursday, the police  said
The village chief was notified by the girl's relatives, who then informed the police.

A rape attempt FIR was filed at the Haidergarh police station on June 17 in accordance with Indian Penal Code sections 376 and 511, according to Barabanki Superintendent of Police (SP), Dinesh Kumar Singh.

He said that the girl had already undergone a medical checkup and that her testimony before the court judge was scheduled to be recorded on Thursday, but that her suicide had already been reported to the police.

Sub-Inspector Yogendra Pratap Singh, the case's investigation officer, had apparently been suspended for negligence in the case investigation, according to him, and a disciplinary inquiry had been launched against him.

He claimed that a senior police officer had been requested to investigate the incident and that a new case of aiding in suicide would be filed if necessary.

After the girl's death, there was dissatisfaction among the family and the villagers, and the SP himself went to the scene.

He assured the locals that they would punish the offenders harshly in order to calm them down.
