CM Amarinder admits death in Punjab due to lack of oxygen after centre's uproar

New Delhi: The Central government has slammed states for giving false data on deaths due to oxygen shortage. During the second wave of the COVID-19 epidemic, it was said that hospitals lack medical oxygen due to a major death toll and now only one state claims death for the same reason. The Punjab Chief Minister admitted after the Centre's statement that the state faced the issue in the initial stages, killing six people.

CM Amarinder Singh said the situation is now under control as the state has increased the oxygen production capacity. "There were six deaths initially at a private hospital in Amritsar when there was a shortage of oxygen," Singh said. That's all," quoted the news agency. "We produced 70 tonnes of oxygen and 300 tonnes were required," he said. We now produce 400 tonnes of oxygen. There is no problem now. In a press release of the Health Ministry yesterday, Joint Secretary Luv Agarwal had said, "As per reports so far, a state had informed us about a suspicious case. The States which have sent us the report so far has not told us that they have reported death, particularly due to oxygen.”

In particular, in Parliament, the Centre had said that no deaths were reported due to lack of oxygen. The Minister of State for Health, Dr. Bharti Praveen Pawar had said that health is a state subject and accordingly all states/states are not aware of the state's health. Union Territories report cases and deaths to the Union Health Ministry on a regular basis.
