New Delhi, May 9: The "hatred" of BJP-backed VP Singh government was responsible for the assassination of Rajiv Gandhi, said Congress veteran Ahmed Patel on Thursday. The statement comes in the backdrop of recent comments made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi against the late prime minister.

Patel slammed the BJP after PM Narendra Modi termed former PM Gandhi, who was assassinated by Sri Lankan separatist group Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) in 1991, as a man who died as c Modi had made the controversial statement while attacking Congress chief Rahul Gandhi during at an election rally during the ongoing Lok Sabha polls.
Amhed Patel took to his twitter handle and wrote, “Abusing a martyred Prime Minster is the sign of ultimate cowardice. But who is responsible for his assassination?” He stated, “The BJP backed VP Singh govt refused to provide him with additional security & left him with one PSO despite credible intelligence inputs and repeated requests.”
