New Delhi:- According to the University Admissions Service (UCAS), record numbers of school graduates are choosing computer science courses. This year's filing data shows that 18-year-olds are more motivated to learn computer science "thanks to the rise of digital and AI," said Claire Marchant, executive director of UCAS.

Applications for computer science degrees have increased by almost 10% compared to 2022. But it was only his seventh most popular field in higher education.

Nearly 95,000 students applied for courses in computer- and AI-related degree programs, while nearly twice as many applied for business and management degree programs. More than 125,000 people applied for courses in design, creative, and performing arts.

Subjects related to medicine, social sciences, biology and physical education, engineering, and technology were all more popular than computer science.

But according to UCAS, the number of applicants for computer-related courses has increased every year since 2019.

Software development had the largest increase in applications this year, with a 16% year-over-year increase. Computer science attracted 11% more applicants. The number of students applying to courses in computer games and animation increased by 2%, while the number of students applying to courses in artificial intelligence (AI) increased by 4%.

The growing interest in computer science courses may also be due in part to the growing public debate about technology and artificial intelligence, Merchant said. “We know that changes in our world have led to increased demand for certain courses, as we have seen in economics since 2008 and in medicine and nursing during the COVID-19 pandemic. I will,” she said.

Chris Derrick, vice-principal at Kelvinside Academy in Glasgow, says that all students currently applying for computer courses are "digital natives" and "have been using powerful technology from an early age to hone their skills every day, have been developed," he said.

“Coding skills are also easily accessible on YouTube and ChatGPT,” he said. “Students can pursue their passions and learn quickly. If they don't have the answers, Google and YouTube will find them,” he said.

Much of the recent public debate revolves around which jobs will replace AI, but job opportunities related to AI, data science, software design, and computing are also increasing.

According to UCAS, there is also an increase in applicants from the most disadvantaged 18-year-olds in the UK.

However, computer science remains a male-dominated discipline, with only 18% of applications for computer-related degree programs coming from female students, up slightly from 17% in 2022 and 16% in 2021.

The total number of 18-year-old applicants in the UK topped 319,500, the second highest on record but down slightly from last year.

Rashik Palmer, Managing Director of the British Computer Society (BCS) said that "Young people in the UK know AI will change the world forever. It's no surprise that his computer science degree is in high demand."

Vanessa Wilson of the University Alliance, an alliance of British universities, agreed that the increased public interest in AI in recent months may have increased the interest of applicants. "The rise in popularity of computers is likely a response to growing awareness of the role of technologies such as AI and a strong desire among students to develop skills that they believe will be relevant in the future," she said.

Nowadays as reported the number of students has accordingly increased after starting to pursue AI-related computer courses. The statistics were very low in the year 2022 but in the current year, the percentage of admissions in these AI courses has raised a lot.
