Apple is reportedly gearing up to launch the AirTag 2 in mid-2025, featuring some significant upgrades over its predecessor. While the overall design of the device is expected to stay similar to the original, the new AirTag will likely include three notable improvements.

The first AirTag, released in early 2021, was well-received, and although rumors suggested a new version might arrive sooner, trusted Apple insider Mark Gurman has confirmed that the AirTag 2 (model number B589) has successfully passed its manufacturing tests. Apple is now set to release the device next year.

What’s New in AirTag 2?
The AirTag 2 is said to offer three key enhancements. Firstly, the range of the device will be improved. In addition, Apple is upgrading the wireless chip, which should boost performance. There are also expected improvements in privacy features. Interestingly, Apple may remove the speaker from the AirTag to prevent misuse for stalking purposes.

Alongside the AirTag 2, Apple is reportedly working on a smart home control center, similar to the Google Nest Hub and Amazon Echo Hub. This new smart device could be launched alongside the AirTag 2 next year. Additionally, Apple is planning to release new versions of the iPhone SE, iPads, and Mac models in 2025.

Enhancing Find My with New Features
As part of its upcoming hardware updates, Apple is enhancing the Find My functionality on iPhones. A new feature introduced in the iOS 18.2 developer beta allows users to share the location of lost items, even with those who aren't in the Apple ecosystem. This means if you lose an item with an AirTag attached, you can easily share a tracking link with authorities or friends, regardless of the type of phone they use.

The shared link expires after a week or once the item is found. Additionally, Apple has added a "Show Contact Info" feature in the Find My app. When enabled, this directs the person who finds the lost item to a webpage with the owner's contact details, such as their phone number and email address.
