Apple is reportedly diving deeper into the smart home arena with plans to introduce a “Smart Home Display.” The new device, described as a wall-mounted display, will allow users to control home appliances, engage in video conferencing, and access apps with the support of artificial intelligence (AI).
Specifications of the AI Wall Tablet: This upcoming device, currently codenamed J490, may debut as early as March 2025. The AI-powered display, based on Apple’s new platform called Apple Intelligence, will feature a six-inch screen with thick edges, a built-in camera, rechargeable battery, and speakers. Voice control is anticipated to be a significant feature, enhanced by Siri’s integration within the display system, allowing hands-free management of various tasks.
Apple’s CEO, Tim Cook, has reportedly emphasized the importance of focusing on the design and engineering of this display. The device, which has been under development for three years, will likely feature a sleek, nearly square form resembling a compact iPad and will be about the size of two iPhones. The display will also be available in silver and black color options.
User-Friendly Design and Features: The device will have a touch interface that feels similar to Apple’s Watch OS and includes elements of the recently launched StandBy Mode found in iPhones. The tablet’s hardware is designed with App Intents technology, which allows deep integration between the display and other Apple devices, enhancing user experience with seamless control over apps and tasks.
Rumors suggest that this display will provide a centralized solution for managing smart lights, security cameras, thermostats, and more, creating a comprehensive smart home control hub. Users will have the option to mount it on a wall or place it on a countertop with a stand. Additional speakers can also be added to the system for a more immersive experience.
