Chennai:  After fights amongst party members on Monday following the power battle between former chief ministers Edappadi K. Palaniswami and O. Panneerselvam, the Tamil Nadu government locked the AIADMK party office in Chennai. The office was sealed by revenue officials.

"RDO has locked the AIADMK party headquarters as a result of the incident there. They or their representatives should be present at the RDO office on July 25 to select who would run the party headquarters in order to prevent additional law and order issues "Chennai Police stated.

On Monday, Edappadi K. Palaniswami (EPS) was named the interim general secretary of the AIADMK. The All India Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam General Council meeting, which was so important, passed 16 resolutions in all. O Paneerselvam was dismissed for "anti-party" acts, and Edappadi K Palaniswami was named the party's interim general secretary.  Along with OPS, the AIADMK removed his followers JCD Prabhakar, R Vaithilingam, and PH Manoj Pandian.

The Madras High Court today rejected a suit by OPS that sought to halt the holding of a General Council (GC) meeting, which allowed for the passage of the resolutions. He urged that because the newly constituted Presidium Chairman had called the meeting, it was technically illegitimate and hence unworkable because only the Coordinator and the Joint Coordinator can call the GC meeting.
