The week began with tight but strong political activity with ruling AIADMK holding crucial meetings on Monday. AIADMK coordinator O Panneerselvam and Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami explained about the party’s election strategies for the upcoming polls with district secretaries at the party headquarters. The AIADMK leaders asked the party district secretaries to complete booth level works and insisted that women campaign groups are formed at every ward.
The women campaign group should strengthen the party to retain the women vote bank enjoyed during the days of AIADMK leader J Jayalalithaa, AIADMK leaders said. The party leaders also reviewed the activities of the party’s youth wing and Ilaignar Paasarai that are very important for the election campaign. Though the AIADMK leaders did not discuss much about actor Rajinikanth’s political debut in public, senior leaders discussed about Rajini and Kamal during the closed-door meetings within a select few, sources said.
The party leaders also asked the MLAs and key functionaries to concentrate on the youth wing and Ilaignar Paasarai to ensure a tough fight with the opposition DMK. A petition was filed before the Madras High Court against TN political parties for holding meetings violating social distancing norms. The AIADMK the ruling party restricted the entry of party functionaries only the district secretaries and the special invitees were allowed for the election discussion meeting.
