An Air India Express flight today, February 3, made an emergency landing at Abu Dhabi airport after an engine caught fire. 

An Air India Express B737-800 aircraft VT-AYC operating flight IX 348 (Abu Dhabi-Calicut) was involved in Airturnback owing to the No. 1 engine flameout at 1000-ft during climb," the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) said in a statement.

This is the second time in a week that an Air India Express plane has had to make an emergency landing. A suspected hydraulic malfunction forced an Air India Express flight from Sharjah to make an emergency landing at Cochin International Airport on January 29.

At 8:04 PM, the international airport declared a full emergency. At 8.36 PM, the emergency was lifted, and air operations were deemed to be normal. The six crew members and the 193 passengers onboard the IX 412 from Sharjah, according to Cochin International Airport Ltd (CIAL), were all safe.

Another Air India Express aircraft from Thiruvananthapuram to Muscat, Oman, was grounded on January 23 due to a computer system malfunction on board.

After one of the pilots discovered the technical issue, the initial flight, IX 549, which departed from the state capital of Kerala at 8.30 AM returned to the international airport here at 9.17 AM.
