Air India Express, the budget carrier under the Tata Group's umbrella, is gearing up for a comprehensive transformation that includes unveiling a fresh logo and livery. This initiative maintains the carrier's distinctive tail art tradition while also adopting a more upscale stance, according to an official statement. The Tata Group had recently revealed a new logo and livery for Air India.

The rebranding process of Air India Express is being managed by Future Brand, the same firm responsible for crafting Air India's new logo. The airline prides itself on its exclusive tail art, a vibrant canvas representing India's rich artistic heritage. This iconic tail art will endure the rebranding process but will be presented in a novel manner, as disclosed by an Air India Express representative.

The uniqueness of Air India Express is further accentuated by the distinct tail designs adorning each of its aircraft. This distinctive feature sets it apart from its counterpart, Air India. The meticulous rebranding effort is set to unfold in a phased manner, ensuring a seamless transition. The airline's representative has also shared that the inaugural aircraft showcasing the new logo and livery is on the horizon.

Details regarding the font, color palette, and tail art specifics remain confidential during this ongoing process. It's underscored that Air India Express operates as a budget carrier, exclusively offering economy class seating. Hence, the rebranding won't mimic the elaborate color schemes witnessed on Air India.

The forthcoming changes, however, won't introduce a mascot; rather, the focus will be on expanding the array of tail art representations showcasing India's diverse artistic and cultural tapestry. These artistic depictions will be thoughtfully integrated into the aircraft design.

Back in November 2022, Air India made AirAsia India its subsidiary through an acquisition. By March 2023, both Air India Express and AirAsia India migrated to a consolidated reservation system and website. This transition also extended to shared customer support and social media channels.

Air India Express boasts a fleet of 28 Airbus aircraft inherited from AirAsia and 26 Boeing 737 planes. An additional 23 Boeing 737 Max aircraft are slated to join the fleet by the end of March.

Meanwhile, Air India Express is strategizing a code-sharing pact with Air India, aligning with its aspiration to merge with the latter. Concurrently, the airline intends to withdraw from routes necessitating business-class accommodations. This maneuver will enable Air India to concentrate on trunk routes, catering to the demand for premium seating options.
