Mumbai: A major accident was averted on Friday when the engine of an Air India aircraft stopped mid-air. However, fortunately, the pilot landed the plane back at the airport in time. An Airbus A320neo aircraft of Air India operated by the Tata Group returned to Mumbai airport just 27 minutes after takeoff as one of its engines had stalled due to a technical problem.
An Air India spokesperson said that on Thursday, the passengers were sent to their destination Bengaluru by another aircraft. According to sources, aviation regulator Directorate General of Civil Aviation is investigating the incident. Air India's A320neo planes are fitted with 'CFM' leap engines. The pilot of the A320neo aircraft received an engine fault warning minutes after the plane took off at the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport at 9:43 am. Sources said that the plane landed back at the Mumbai airport at 10.10 am after the engine shut down.
When asked about the incident, an Air India spokesperson said, "Air India gives top priority to safety. Our crew is well-versed in handling these situations. Our engineering and maintenance teams have started investigation immediately. The spokesperson said that the passengers were sent to Bengaluru by another aircraft.
