New Delhi: India has sent a large consignment of wheat to Egypt even after the ban on wheat exports. After the request of Egypt, 61,500 tonnes of wheat has been sent from India to Egypt. This is the biggest consignment given by India to any country after banning wheat exports. Like Egypt, about 12 countries have requested India to export wheat to them.
According to media reports, an official aware of the whole matter has given information in this regard, urging anonymity. He has told that there are at least a dozen countries that are requesting India for wheat at the diplomatic level. The customs has allowed export of 17,160 tonnes of wheat to be exported to Egypt. The official further said that the mandatory formalities including credit guarantee for the shipments being sent to Egypt were completed even before India imposed the ban on exports.
Let us tell you that the shipment of wheat from India to Egypt is being done by Mera International Private Limited. After the ban came into effect, the ship was given custom clearance for this consignment of wheat. This consignment had left from Kandla port in Gujarat on 17 May.
