New Delhi: An Air India aircraft reached Romania's capital Bucharest on Saturday morning to bring home Indian nationals stranded in Ukraine due to Russian attack. Senior government officials said that flight number AI1943 took off from Mumbai airport at around 3:40 am and reached Bucharest airport at around 10:45 am IST.
He has told that Indian nationals who had reached the Ukraine-Romania border by road were taken by Indian government officials to Bucharest so that they could be brought to India by Air India flight. The Boeing 787 aircraft can carry 256 passengers at a time. Stranded students from Ukraine have arrived at the Bucharest airport in Romania. A student said, 'Indian embassies in Ukraine and Romania are evacuating us from Ukraine to take us back to India. The Indian Embassy in Romania is handling everything since we arrived here.
Air India will run more flights on Saturday to Bucharest and Hungarian capital Budapest to bring back Indian citizens stranded in Ukraine. On Thursday, Ukrainian authorities closed their country's airspace for the operation of passenger planes, so these flights are being run from Bucharest and Budapest to bring Indians home. Officials say about 20,000 Indians, mostly students, are currently stranded in Ukraine.
