HYDERABAD: India will require 2,210 new aircraft over the next 20 years, since the country's aviation passenger traffic is predicted to expand at a rate of 6.2 percent per year, the most in the world, Airbus said in a statement.

The fleet might include 1,770 new small planes and 440 new medium and big planes. By 2040, India will require an additional 34,000 pilots and 45,000 technicians to serve its expanding aviation industry.

Airbus made the prediction on the sidelines of Wings India 2022, Asia's largest civil aviation event, which opened on Thursday in Mumbai. For the next ten years, Airbus plans to deliver more than one aircraft to India every week.

"Over the next decade, India will have the world's largest population, the fastest-growing economy among the G20 countries, and a growing middle class that will spend more on air travel. As a result, India's passenger traffic will expand at a rate of 6.2 percent per year by 2040, the fastest among major nations and far higher than the global average of 3.9 percent "Airbus India and South Asia's Head of Airline Marketing, Brent McBratney, said.
