Kochi: India's third busiest airport, Cochin International Airport Ltd (CIAL), will begin handling 1190 international flights per week on Sunday, as India resumes commercial international flights after a two-year hiatus.

During the winter schedule, the airport handled 848 flights. The airport's Summer timetable, which begins Sunday, will be in effect until October 29. Summer schedules for CIAL include 20 airlines serving international destinations, 16 of which are international carriers with 261 weekly departures.

"Air India Express, Ethihad, Air Asia Berhad, Oman Air, Emirates, Qatar Air, Kuwait Air, Thai Air Asia, Saudi Arabian, Srilankan, Gulf Air, Singapore Airlines, Fly Dubai,  Spice Jet, and Indigo are just a few of the major airlines that operate from Cochin Airport on a regular basis." Air India's three weekly flights to London will continue, while Thai Air Asia will resume operations from Kochi in June, with four weekly direct flights to Bangkok.

CIAL has scheduled 668 domestic flights for the summer season, connecting 13 cities across the country, including 63 weekly flights to Delhi, 55 weekly flights to Mumbai, 39 weekly flights to Hyderabad, 49 weekly flights to Chennai, 79 weekly flights to Bangalore, and 7 weekly flights to Kolkata.

"The company's ardent endeavour to smooth traffic during the pandemic era would have instilled a sense of security in International Airlines, which is reflected in the summer schedule," said S Suhas, CIAL's Managing Director.
