Telecom service provider Airtel has started installing 4G technology in 900 MHz band in all 10 telecom circles. The company was earlier using this band in 2G services. A source said that reframing of 900 MHz spectrum band for 4G service is going on in 6 circles Delhi, Kolkata, Andhra Pradesh, North East, Karnataka and Rajasthan. Sources said that the company will do this in as many circles as possible.
A senior officer of Bharti Airtel said that the company has already discontinued 3G across India and reframed all 3G spectrum for 4G. The company official said with a condition of not expressing the name, "With the penetration of smartphones in small towns and villages, we have an opportunity to increase network capacity without waiting till the auction of 4G spectrum. For this, we are reframing some high-quality spectrum of 2G. This is helping us make 4G experience completely different on our network. '
The officer also said that Bharti Airtel has freed 900 MHz spectrum in 10 circles and the reframing process is expected to be completed in the next 3-4 months. According to a recent report by OpenSignal, Airtel's network is the best in terms of download speed, gaming experience and video experience.
