Bharti Airtel, the country's largest telecom company, is negotiating with mobile-making companies to bring a Rs 4,500-rupee 4G smartphone. This initiative of the company is being seen as an attempt to compete with Reliance Jio who started booking a 'zero effective cost' of Rs. 1500 for the 4G feature phones recently.
Sources said that unlike Reliance Jio, Airtel is fully focused on bringing the smartphone as it believes that people will not hesitate to spend a little more money to buy a smartphone.
According to knowledgeable sources, Airtel's 4G smartphone can come in the market before Diwali. It will have Airtel's 4G connection and bring attractive data and voice plans to attract large numbers of customers.
According to sources, the proposed Dual SIM 4G smartphone will have a battery of four-inch display, dual cameras, voice cabling and good capacity. There will be a GB RAM. Sources did not say that this will be available for booking since when. However, Airtel has officially denied any comments about it.
Reliance Jio started booking the 4G feature phone on August 24. Its supply is likely to start with Navaratri. The company says that the price of Rs 1500 will be refunded after returning the phone after three years, so the effective cost of the phone is zero.
