NEW DELHI: On Saturday, Akasa Air launched its inaugural flight between Pune and Bangalore.

The second city in the state of Maharashtra after Mumbai, Pune is the ninth location in Akasa Air's network.

Beginning on Saturday, the airline will operate two daily flights on the Bangalore-Pune route, with additional daily flights connecting the two IT centres beginning on December 10, 2022.

Akasa Air announced earlier in November that Visakhapatnam would become the tenth location on its network. Flights between the two cities are expected to begin on December 10, 2022, and a second frequency will be added on December 12, 2022.

Since its debut in August of this year, Akasa Air has gradually expanded its operations and anticipates reaching over 450 weekly flights by mid-December on a total of fourteen routes throughout ten cities: Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Kochi, Chennai, Mumbai, Delhi, Guwahati, Agartala, Pune, and Visakhapatnam.

This accelerated growth of cities, routes, and frequencies is consistent with the airline's goal of expanding its network quickly and gradually throughout India.

Akasa Air's co-founder and chief commercial officer, Praveen Iyer, made the following remarks regarding the first flight and the new route: "An important milestone has been reached with the start of operations on this route as we add Pune to our network, increasing our presence in Maharashtra. Pune and Bengaluru are both significant IT hubs, and improved connection along this route, supported by reasonable fares, is consistent with our goal of bolstering crucial transportation links throughout our nation, which will support economic growth.

With the addition of a second daily flight on this route beginning on December 10, there will be a total of three convenient departure times daily from Pune."
