Lucknow: Samajwadi Party (SP) national president and former Uttar Pradesh CM Akhilesh Yadav said that such a 'Farmers' Day' has come in the history of the country when the farmers of the country are forced to struggle on the streets instead of celebrating the festival. In a tweet, Akhilesh paid tribute to former PM Chaudhary Charan Singh on his birth anniversary.

Akhilesh pointed to the ongoing farmers' agitation against the new agricultural laws and wrote in a tweet referring to 'Farmers' Day' to be celebrated on Charan Singh's birth anniversary, that today one such farmers' day in the history of the country under BJP rule came when the farmer of the country is forced to struggle on the streets in place of celebration'. The former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister said in a tweet in Hindi with the 'Farmers' Day 'hashtag, 'BJP should stop insulting the farmers because the farmer of the country is the man of India'.

Union Defense Minister Rajnath Singh has also paid tribute to the former Prime Minister on this occasion. Rajnath Singh wrote in a tweet, 'I salute Chaudhary Charan Singh Ji, a leader of former PM and most respected farmer leaders of the country, on the occasion of his birth anniversary. Chaudhary Saheb continued to give voice to the problems of farmers for a lifetime and worked for their welfare. The country will always remember his contribution.'
