Lucknow: On the Uttar Pradesh government's education minister's statement that only three teachers died while on duty for Uttar Pradesh panchayat elections, Samajwadi Party national president and former CM Akhilesh Yadav said the state's ruthless BJP government is now lying to avoid compensation. Akhilesh Yadav tweeted on Wednesday, "The ruthless BJP government in Uttar Pradesh is now lying that only three teachers have died in election duty while the teachers' union figure is more than 1,000.", akhilesh yadav tweeted on Wednesday.

Akhilesh further wrote that "BJP government is creating a world record of great lies. What do the heartless BJP know about the sufferings of the family members'. It may be mentioned that the teachers' organisations in Uttar Pradesh have demanded compensation of One crore rupees each to the families of all and government jobs to the dependents claiming the death of 1,621 teachers, shikshamitras and other departmental personnel who were on duty in the recent Panchayat elections in the state.

State Basic Education Minister Satish Dwivedi had on Tuesday termed the claim as false and said that as per the established norms, only three teachers died during election duty. Uttar Pradesh Primary Teachers' Association President Dinesh Chandra Sharma has written a letter to CM Yogi Adityanath on May 16 saying that 1,621 teachers, instructors, education friends and employees doing panchayat election duty in all the 75 districts of the state have died due to corona virus infection.
