CHANDIGARH: The Punjab Government, led by Bhagwant Mann, is planning to equip all  state government buildings with solar power. The step is intended to further strengthen clean energy infrastructure in the state.

Punjab New and Renewable Energy Sources Minister Aman Arora on Friday gave instructions to the heads of all departments to speed up the process of issuing NOC so that panels can be put as soon as possible in order to outfit all state government buildings with solar photovoltaic (PV) panels.

Arora, who was presiding over a virtual conference, requested that the representatives name a senior member of their departments as a nodal officer to work with Punjab Energy Development Agency (PEDA) to coordinate the solarization of the departments' buildings.

In order to guarantee a clean environment for the state's residents, the minister declared that the administration is fully dedicated to bolstering the clean energy infrastructure. This environmentally responsible action will significantly reduce the amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) in the electricity sector, as solar power has become the most popular renewable energy source because of the advantages it provides.

Arora said, this large-scale project will be carried out in the form of a Renewable Energy Services Company (RESCO). PEDA has already installed solar PV with a total installed capacity of 88MW on the roofs of numerous government buildings, and these installations have been productively producing clean and green energy.

This project will reduce the cost burden of each department's electricity expenses by 40% to 50%. He noted that the money saved on electricity costs would go toward promoting public welfare.
