Rajasthan: India President Droupadi Murmu on Tuesday, January 3, virtually laid the foundation stone of state-owned energy company SJVN's 1,000 MW Bikaner Solar Power Project in Jaipur, Rajasthan.

Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and Governor of Rajasthan Kalraj Mishra  also attended the event, SJVN said in a statement. This project will be carried out by its fully-owned subsidiary SJVN Green Energy Limited (SGEL).

The project's development cost is Rs 5,492 crore, and IREDA is providing viability gap finance support for this project at a rate of Rs 44.72 lakh per megawatt, said SJVN CMD Nand Lal Sharma. It will come up on a 5,000 acres area''.
The project would create 2,454.55 million units (MU) in the first year and about 56,838 MU cumulatively during a 25-year period. The project is expected to be commissioned by March 2024. The project would also lead to a reduction in carbon emissions of 27,85,077 tonnes. 

The maximum consumption fees have been set at Rs 2.57 per unit, which would assist in offering consumers cheaper electricity.

SJVN won the 1,000 MW Bikaner Solar Power Project through open competition under the Central Public Sector Undertaking Scheme Phase-II, Tranche-III (Government Producer Scheme). The project's power output must be used for personal consumption or by the government or other government agencies, either directly or through distribution corporations (DISCOMS).
