HYDERABAD: India President Droupadi Murmu on Wednesday, December 28, virtually inaugurated two Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRSs) in Telangana from Bhadrachalam.

Out of the two,  one school has come up in Komaram Bheem Asifabad district, while the other has been built in Mahabubabad district.

The Central government has decided to set up one Eklavya Model Residential School in every block with more than 50 percent population of Scheduled Tribes and as many as 20,000 tribal persons.

Construction of the Eklavya Model Residential Schools Sirpur in Komaram Bheem Asifabad and Bayyaram in Mahabubabad district started in December 2020 and Phase first of construction has been fulfilled recently. Currently, these schools are functioning from other government buildings with 448 students studying from Classes VI to IX.

The Eklavya Model Residential Schools have been established with the aim to enable tribal students to have access to the best opportunities in education. Each school will have 480 students, with 240 girls and 240 boys in classes from Classes VI to X with 3 sections and Class IX to XII with 3 sections.

The facilities in the Eklavya Model Residential Schools will be at par with the Navodaya Vidyalaya. In Telangana, a total of 23 such kind of schools will be set up, and the construction of 11 schools has already been completed.

Prior to it, the President performed prayers at Sri Seetharama Chandra Swamyvari Devasthanam in Bhadrachalam. She also lay the foundation-stone for the construction of the tourist infrastructure at the Bhadrachalam Temple as part of the Union Tourism Ministry's Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual Heritage Augmentation Drive (PRASHAD) programme.

She also opened the Vanvasi Kalyan Parishad of Telangana's Sammakka Saralamma Janjati Pujari Sammelan.
