Gurugram: All meat shops in Gurugram, adjacent to the national capital Delhi, will remain closed till September 1. In fact, MCG has issued an order to close shops located in markets for nine days, which has come into effect from Wednesday (August 25). In fact, on July 20, the Haryana Urban Local Bodies Department (ULB) ordered that all meat shops and slaughterhouses in the state will remain closed from August 24 to September 1 as people of the Jain community celebrate the Paryushan festival during this time.

However, this order will not be applicable to retail chain shops selling frozen and packed meat. While inspecting the compliance of the order on Wednesday, it was found that shops selling meat in areas like Arjun Marg, Sadar Bazar and Chakkarpur remained closed for the day. Many people were seen seeking information regarding the order in local markets. Some said such a directive should have been voluntary.

The owners of the shops also said that they are suffering huge losses due to the order. Ambika Sachdeva, a resident of DLF-1, said, "We went to a mall to buy meat, but came to know that it was closed. I don't understand why this is happening in India. We call ourselves a free country. Is this freedom where religion is imposed on our individual choices?"
