Lucknow: On September 10, the Allahabad High Court imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh on lawyer Mehmood Pracha for misusing court time, according to Live Law. Pracha had filed a writ petition challenging the integrity and security of videography during elections. The court was critical of his conduct during the proceedings, noting that he appeared in person with his coat and band without notifying the court.

The bench, consisting of Justice Shekhar B. Saraf and Justice Manjive Shukla, expressed disappointment with Pracha’s decision to approach the Allahabad High Court after receiving favorable rulings from the Delhi High Court on similar issues. The bench found it perplexing that Pracha chose to shift forums despite having previously stated satisfaction with the Delhi High Court's decisions.

The court highlighted Pracha’s failure to adhere to proper courtroom etiquette, emphasizing that his behavior was unbecoming of a senior lawyer. The bench stressed that Pracha should have either appeared through his advocate or sought permission from the court to appear personally. Pracha was directed to pay the fine to the Uttar Pradesh State Legal Services Authority within 30 days, and the court instructed the Registrar General to recover the amount if not paid.

Pracha, known for his vocal stance on various issues, has a controversial background. In 2020, he was featured on the cover of a pro-ISIS journal published by Al-Qitaal Media Center. He also heads "Mission Save Constitution" and has been involved in organizing events with controversial communal overtones. Recently, he attracted attention with a video condemning the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), which he labeled as a conspiracy to undermine citizens' rights and benefit corporate interests.
