Srinagar: Under heightened security, a fresh batch of pilgrims set out for the Amarnath Yatra from the Pantha Chowk base camp in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, on Sunday. Vijay Kumar, a pilgrim from Jalandhar, Punjab, who spent the night at the base camp, shared his positive experience with the media. "The facilities here have been excellent," Kumar said. "We will soon board a bus to Baltal and return after paying our respects."
Vinita Singh, visiting from Haryana, expressed her enthusiasm for the pilgrimage, noting, "Everything, including security and facilities, is up to mark here. The people are very kind. We will pray for peace for everyone in the country." The Amarnath Yatra, organized by the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board, offers two routes for pilgrims: one through Pahalgam and the other through Baltal in the Ganderbal district, where Baltal serves as a key camping ground.
Prasad, a Bengaluru resident on his fifth visit to Kashmir, hoped to complete the Yatra by Sunday evening. "I love visiting Kashmir every year. I encourage everyone to come and experience its beauty," he said. The Yatra officially commenced on June 29 from both Baltal and Pahalgam base camps and is set to conclude on August 19. This year's pilgrimage is being conducted amidst a notable increase in terror attacks in the region.
