New Delhi: Due to the growing havoc of the global pandemic Coronavirus, all major events and religious places in the country and the world have also been closed. In this sequence, the event of Ambubachi fair held in Kamakhya temple of Guwahati in June every year has also been cancelled. Kamakhya temple management committee has taken this decision due to coronavirus epidemic.

A five-day festival at Nilachal in Shalati Peeth of Guwahati is usually held between 22 June to 26 June every year. This festival witnesses the arrival of 20-25 lakh pilgrims from all over the country and even abroad. Actually, the Ambubachi festival is a symbol of the menstrual cycle of Maa Kamakhya. While giving information, the Assam Tribune said that the event of the fair has been canceled, but the worship will be as usual inside the temple.

Actually, under normal circumstances, the temple door is closed during the festival and advance booking is done for this event. Pilgrims come and live in houses atop Neelachal hill. However, due to the outbreak of Corona virus, the temple management committee decided to close the doors of the temple on 20 March itself.
