Washington: The US has imposed trade restrictions on 11 companies in China. There have been complaints against these companies for their involvement in human rights violations in the Xinjiang area of Muslim-populated China. The ban, announced by the US on Monday, is a new attempt to pressure China. The ruling Communist Party of China has been accused of abusing Muslim minorities in the region, bonded labor, and mass detention.
Human rights, trade, and technology, as well as the issue of the Xinjiang region, have been one of the causes of sour relations in US-China relations. The US's Donald Trump government has also banned four Chinese officials because of these allegations. In retaliation, China has announced a fine on four US senators opposing its human rights record.
The US Department of Commerce said that these 11 companies would have limited access to American products and technology due to being banned. However, the department did not provide information on which products would be affected. US Commerce Minister Wilbur Ross said in a statement that these bans would ensure that the Communist Party of China could not use American goods and technology against the helpless Muslim minorities there.
