Washington: The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) said on Friday (January 13) that the corona vaccine of American drugmaker Pfizer Inc and German company BioNTech may increase the risk of brain stroke in the elderly. According to the report, although the CDC has instructed adults to get the Covid-19 vaccine.

According to the report, these findings were in accordance with the preliminary data of the analysis done by the US health authorities. The Safety Monitoring System reported that the CDC vaccine database highlighted a potential safety issue in that people aged 65 and older were more likely to have an ischemic stroke 21 days after receiving the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine. Ischemic stroke occurs due to blockage in the arteries carrying blood to the brain. It is also known as brain ischemia. The FDA and CDC have reported that the study, the CDC's Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System, databases from other countries, and the Pfizer-BioNTech database have not identified this safety issue as requiring further investigation.

According to health officials, currently available data suggests that it is highly unlikely that the signal in the VSD (Vaccine Safety Datalink) represents a risk. We believe it is extremely important to share this information with the public. Pfizer/BioNTech said in a statement that they have been made aware of limited reports of ischemic stroke in people 65 and older following vaccination.

The companies have stated that 'Neither Pfizer/BioNTech nor the CDC or FDA have observed similar findings in many other surveillance systems in the US and internationally and there is no evidence to conclude that ischemic stroke is caused by the companies' COVID -19 is related to the use of the vaccine. According to the report, both the CDC and the FDA recommend that everyone six months of age and older be fully vaccinated.
