Washington: Considering the inability of Indian embassies to help their citizens due to rising unemployment and shortage of money, a prominent expatriate Indian (NRI) has called for expatriate Indians to get financial help in crisis abroad. The community, ICWF, and other prestigious organizations and individuals have been called upon to be involved in this process.

ICWF was formed in 2009: According to sources, the Indian Community Welfare Fund (ICWF) was formed in 2009, where its purpose is to help such Indian citizens present abroad in crisis and emergency who need it most. The Government of India, in 2017, decentralized the decision-making process to allow embassies and consulates from New Delhi to pay each fund.

Overseas Indians contribute to the ICWF with an open heart: Prem Bhandari of New York, who has been helping the Indians in crisis for many years, said that he appealed to the Indian government that the Indian diaspora communities allow to contribute with an open heart to the ICWF, where he has raised this issue with the Ministry of External Affairs.
