Washington: India has been elected as a temporary member of the UN Security Council for the 8th time in 8 years. 193 countries of the General Assembly took part in voting on Wednesday. 184 countries voted in favor of India. The US welcomed the temporary membership of the Security Council to India. It states that "India and America will work together on important issues like peace and security in the world".

According to the United Nations Charter, India has been elected as a provisional member for two years. Ireland, Mexico and Norway have also been elected provisional members along with India. A statement was issued by the US after India announced a temporary member. America has said, 'We welcome India and congratulate them. The two countries will work together on issues of peace and security in the world. There is an international strategic partnership between the two countries. We want to take it further. '

However, Pakistan is concerned with the temporary membership of the United Nations Security Council of India (UNSC). Before voting, Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mohammad Qureshi said that India's temporary membership in the UNSC is a matter of concern for us. India has always rejected proposals to be raised from this platform. Let us tell you that the objective of choosing a temporary member in UNSC is to maintain regional balance there. Djibouti, India and Kenya have three candidates each for the two seats earmarked for Africa and Asia-Pacific countries.
