US President Joe Biden's invitation to PM Modi, summit to be held in April

Washington: US President Joe Biden has invited 40 leaders of the world, including PM Narendra Modi, for a 'Leaders' Summit' to be held for the purpose of talks on tackling climate change. The purpose of this summit is to underline the economic benefits and importance of taking concrete steps to tackle climate change.

This two-day summit will be held on 22 and 23 April and will be broadcast live. The White House said on Friday that, "It will be a milestone in the path of the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP 26) to be held in November this year in Glasgow." Apart from PM Modi, Chinese President Xi Jinping, Russia 40 leaders including President Vladimir Putin, Japan's PM Yoshihide Suga, Brazilian President Zaire Bolsonaro, Canada's PM Justin Trudeau, Israel's PM Benjamin Netanyahu, Saudi Arabia's Shah Salman bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud, British PM Boris Johnson Invitation has been sent for.

Apart from these leaders, Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina from South Asia and Bhutan PM Lotte Tshering has also been invited to attend the conference. The White House said the main goal of this summit and COP 26 is to accelerate efforts to keep global temperatures below 1.5 degrees Celsius.
