Amid COVID spike in India, Boris Johnson Cancels His Visit

UK prime minister Boris Johnson was to visit India next week. India owing to the current coronavirus situation in the country Boris Johnson has cancelled his visit. The governments of both nation decided to reschedule the meet later with the heads of states of both nations.

According to the reports, both leaders will look forward to meet in-person maybe later this year. The UK premier was scheduled to hold bilateral talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi but there was no formal announcement of any itinerary. In the statement it was said that “In the light of the current coronavirus situation, prime minister Boris Johnson will not be able to travel to India next week. Instead, Prime Ministers Modi and Johnson will speak later this month to agree and launch their ambitious plans for the future partnership between the UK and India. They will remain in regular contact beyond this, and look forward to meeting in person later this year.”

The surge in the number of cases in India has led to imposition of curfews and lockdown. Financial hub Mumbai is hit worst by the second wave along with Pune, Nagpur and Nashik continue to suffer from the rising number of Covid-19 cases. Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal are many states of India who are also witnessing a surge in case.
