New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah has unveiled a series of significant measures aimed at tackling cybercrime, including the creation of a Cyber Fraud Mitigation Centre and the training of 5,000 "cyber commandos" over the next five years.

The new initiatives include several key platforms: the Suspect Registry, Cyber Commandos, Cyber Fraud Mitigation Centre, and the Coordination Platform. These platforms are designed to enhance India's cyber defenses by providing comprehensive tools and resources for managing and combating cyber threats.

Amit Shah emphasized the importance of a Cyber Suspect Registry at the state level, which will act as a vital resource in identifying and tracking potential cyber criminals. The Cyber Fraud Mitigation Centre will bring together police, financial institutions, and other relevant agencies into a unified system, while the Coordination Platform will facilitate better cooperation in addressing cyber threats.

With the rise in digital transactions, Shah stressed the need for strong cybersecurity measures and highlighted recent legislative advancements, including the Indian Judicial Code, aimed at improving cyber defenses.

In response to evolving cyber threats and the emergence of new types of fraud, the government has formed joint teams in several locations, including Mewat, Jamtara, Guwahati, and Ahmedabad, to more effectively combat cybercrime.

During the first foundation day celebration of I4C, Shah remarked, "The reach of cyber criminals knows no bounds. Therefore, a national-level suspect registry encompassing all states is very important for preventing future crimes."

Starting September 10, I4C will launch a nationwide awareness campaign, utilizing over 72 TV channels, 190 FM stations, and various cinema halls to promote the '1930' helpline number. Shah urged state governments to support this initiative, emphasizing that cybersecurity is essential for the country’s progress and national security.
