The state government is set to intensify its fight against naxalism in Chhattisgarh with the deployment of four battalions of Central Reserve Police Forces (CRPF), amounting to 4,000 personnel, in Bastar. This move aligns with the Union Home Minister Amit Shah's declaration to rid the country of naxalism by March 2026.
During an inter-state coordination meeting on August 24 with Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai and other key officials, Amit Shah emphasized that the fight against naxalism has entered its final phase. He highlighted a significant reduction in casualties among security forces and civilians. "In the first decade, 6,617 security personnel lost their lives, but we've now seen a 70% decrease in such deaths. Similarly, civilian deaths have dropped by 69%. By March 2026, we aim to completely eradicate naxalism," Shah said.
In addition to security updates, the Union Home Minister reviewed the ongoing development of infrastructure in regions affected by Left-Wing Extremism (LWE), also known as Red Corridors, across nine states.
Chhattisgarh Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma confirmed on Monday that the deployment of CRPF forces would enhance area dominance and weaken the insurgency. "Whatever is required for area dominance, everything will be done. We are moving forward with a big goal. Under the leadership of the Union Home Minister and Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, we are confident that the situation will be brought under control within a reasonable time," Sharma said.
