Sahibganj: Union Home Minister Amit Shah, during his 'Parivartan' rally on Friday, criticized the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM)-led government, describing it as the "most corrupt in the country." He urged the people of Jharkhand to vote the current administration out of power in the upcoming Assembly elections later this year.
Shah visited Bhognadih in the Barhet block of Sahibganj district, arriving by helicopter from Deoghar Airport. He paid tribute to the statue of Sidhu Kanhu, a martyr of the Santhal rebellion, before officially launching the Parivartan Yatra.
At the rally, Shah targeted the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Congress, and JMM, accusing them of fostering a "vote bank" built on illegal immigrants. He pledged that if the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is elected, it will work to remove illegal migrants from the state.
Shah's criticism of Chief Minister Hemant Soren's administration was pointed, calling it the "most corrupt" in India. He questioned whether a government plagued by multiple scams could truly serve the people and promote their welfare.
The Home Minister also raised concerns about the changing demographics in the Santhal Pargana region, claiming that the tribal population had decreased from 44% to 28% due to infiltration. He expressed confidence that the BJP would secure victory in all constituencies in the region. Several notable political figures, including former Jharkhand Chief Minister Babulal Marandi, Rajya Sabha MP Deepak Prakash, Godda MP Nishikant Dubey, and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, were in attendance.
The Significance of Bhognadih in Jharkhand's History
Bhognadih holds great historical importance as the birthplace of Sido Murmu, a key leader in the Santhal rebellion against British rule. The region witnessed the deaths of thousands of people, including many British soldiers, during the uprising. In an effort to quash the movement, the British publicly hanged Sido Kanhu on a Banyan tree in Panchkathiya, Barhet, as a warning to others. The rebellion lasted for two years, after which the British renamed the area "Santhal Pargana" to appease the local tribal population.
