New Delhi: The Group of Ministers headed by Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday approved the Letter of Interest (EOI) and the draft share-sale agreement for bidding for privatization of Air India. Giving information, a senior government official has informed that for the privatization of this public sector airline, a letter of interest and share purchase-sale agreement will be issued in this month itself.
The last meeting of the Group of Ministers constituted for Air India disinvestment was held in September 2019. The Air India Specific Alternative System (AISAM) had approved the restart of the process to sell the government's 100 percent stake in the airline last year. Along with Air India, it was also approved to sell its stake in Air India Express and AISTS.
Apart from Amit Shah, the meeting was attended by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Union Commerce and Railways Minister Piyush Goyal and Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri. Let us tell you that the country's leading airline Air India has been in loss for a long time, due to which the company is facing an economic problem, while the central government is trying to sell this airline.
