Amit Shah, the current Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president, will be in the new Narendra Modi Cabinet. Gujarat BJP president Jitu Vaghani took to Twitter to congratulate the BJP president on being inducted in the new Cabinet.

Shah is considered the Chanakya of Indian politics with the BJP touching new heights under his leadership. The BJP won 303 of the 542 Lok Sabha seats that went to polls in the recently-concluded national elections. Shah, who had contested the 2019 General Election from Gandhinagar constituency in Gujarat, defeated C J Chavda of the Congress by a margin of over 5.5 lakh votes.

Shah, known for his organisational skills, is credited for the BJP's historic win in 2014 and 2019. In 2014, he was made the party's general secretary in Uttar Pradesh. Shah worked at the grassroots level and led the party to win 71 of the 80 Parliamentary seats in the state. After the BJP came to power in 2014, Shah was given the charge of party president.

After taking over as the party president, he worked to make the saffron party stronger in the regions where it had an almost negligible presence. He made the party units tech-savvy even while ensuring that they were networked with the party headquarters for regular feedback from the ground.

In 2019, the BJP not only swept the North Indian states, barring Punjab, but it also made inroads into West Bengal and Odisha. In West Bengal, the saffron party won 18 of the 42 Parliamentary seats while in Odisha, the party garnered eight of the 21 Lok Sabha seats.

The BJP under his leadership bounced back and swept Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh – where it had faced a drubbing in the 2018 Assembly polls - in the national elections.
