New Delhi: Today is the 120th birth anniversary of Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee, who was one of the founding members of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh. He was born in Calcutta on this day in 1901. With the help of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), he founded the Bharatiya Jana Sangh in 1951 and it was converted into the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in 1980. Union Home Minister Amit Shah and other leaders paid homage to him on his birth anniversary today.

 

 

Amit Shah tweeted, "Dr. Mukherjee made a significant contribution to the strengthening of education, health and industrial development in the country and strengthening India strategically with his visionary thinking. His views on cultural nationalism will remain relevant for a long time. On the birth anniversary of such a wonderful national hero, he was saluted millions of times.'' PM Modi also wrote in a tweet, ''I bow to Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee on his birth anniversary. Their ideas inspire millions of people in the country. Dr. Mukherjee spent his life in the unity and progress of India. He also made his mark as a scholar and intellectual.''

Union Minister Prakash Javadekar also tweeted on the occasion that "Patriot and nationalist Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee dedicated his life to the unity and integrity of India. On the birth anniversary of our inspiration and an ardent nationalist thinker, the revered Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee, he was saluted millions of times.''
