Hindi cinema's megastar Amitabh Bachchan has said that films are a great way to bring people together to forget their differences. The 77-year-old actor was honored with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award at the ongoing 50th International Film Festival, which was announced in September. During the film festival, Amitabh Bachchan said, "I have always felt that cinema is a powerful medium that goes beyond language and everything that comes in our social and modern life." Giving an example of this, he said that "when we sit in the dark cinema hall, we never ask the person sitting next to us what caste, religion, and color he is. Nevertheless, we enjoy the film, its songs, laughter, and emotion together".

The actor added that "in this fast and isolated world, there are only a few things, including cinema, that spread the ideas of community and peace. We hope that we will keep making films that do not divide people on the basis of caste, religion or colors, but keep them connected".

The film festival will run till November 28, with Amitabh Bachchan also showing super hit films Sholay, Deewar, Piku, Black and Badla. He said "it has been 50 years in this film industry. He made his film debut in 1969 and is the 50th event of the film festival". He congratulated the organizers for making it memorable. At the film festival opening ceremony on Wednesday, the special guest Amitabh said that it has always been a great experience for him to come to Goa.
