Aligarh: A case has been registered against an assistant professor of Uttar Pradesh's Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) at Quarsi police station for dowry harassment and triple talaq to his wife. According to reports, the victim has alleged that her in-laws had promised her MTech before the nikah, but they are harassing her for dowry, let alone giving her higher education after the Nikaah. When the case reached the court, the accused husband divorced his wife three times on the beach road. It is being told that the police have registered a case against the in-laws of Farheen Izhar and started the investigation.
Farheen Izhar, a resident of Ikra Colony Pool House, has stated in her complaint to the police that on November 9, 2021, she was married to Asad Mohammad, an assistant professor at the AMU's faculty of computer engineers. Before the nikah, the in-laws had promised to get her MTech, but after the nikah, he reneged on his promise and started asking for dowry. The woman also said that they started demanding Rs 10 lakh, land and flats from her in dowry. She was tortured by making several allegations and on February 14, when the dowry demand was not met, the husband left her.
Under compulsion, the woman moved the court and filed a case of domestic violence, and harassment for dowry against the in-laws. When the notice of this reached the in-laws, the in-laws got more agitated. Then on the morning of May 6, when she was going somewhere with her sister-in-law from near Nizami Pulia, her husband left her by saying triple talaq on the beach road. Apart from Shohar, a case has also been registered against Jeth Alam, Nandoi Anas, and in-laws in this case. He is alleged to have threatened the victim over the phone. Inspector Quarsi said that a case has been registered under sections of dowry harassment and The Muslim Marriage Act.
