Bhubaneswar: A 30-year-old man was arrested on Friday for allegedly beheading an 8-year-old girl and roaming around the village with a severed head in a tragic incident in Odisha's Jajpur district. Police said that the intention behind this tragic incident in the village of Zamankira Mandal is yet to be ascertained and people are in a quandary about the incident. The girl had gone to defecate in the field in the morning, after which, the culprit reached there with an axe and beheaded her. He later walked into the village with the severed head, went to a tubewell and washed it.
When the wife of the criminal saw the severed head in his hand, she had a fight with him, but he threatened to cut his wife with an axe. The criminal then slept on the ground there. Kuchinda sub-divisional police officer Rajkishore Mishra said that police reached the spot and arrested the culprit. Investigations have revealed that he is addicted to drugs.
The officer said, "We are yet to find out what was going on in his mind while executing the incident. People said that the culprit used to fight with the family of the deceased girl on the day he came but he was not mentally retarded. Inspector Premjit Das of Zamankira police station said the weapon has been recovered and the body has been sent for post mortem. The case is being investigated.
